Limit states

États-limites explores the theme of catastrophe in its etymological sense - the brutal or irreversible reversal of a situation -, observed from the angle of the transformations of matter.

États-limites explores the theme of catastrophe in its etymological sense - the brutal or irreversible reversal of a situation -, observed from the angle of the transformations of matter.
The work of Christine Deknuydt occupies a central place in it: this Dunkerque-based artist has created series of drawings designed as manipulations of applied chemistry. These works dialogue with the scientific and technical collections of the University of Lille and two installations by Dennis Oppenheim and Fabrizio Plessi that question the modes of interaction between humanity and the planet it occupies.
This exhibition, designed and co-produced by the University of Lille and the LaM, was born from a close collaboration between the museum teams, the teachers, the Culture Department of the University and the students who took part in its creation.
